Look at it this way - the most popular Signs seem to be ones that confer boosts to either Attributes (which is folly, I'll explain) or to Magicka.

IMO, The Atronach is actually better suited for warriors who either intend to use little magic, or none. I think it started as +(more than any other Sign) Magicka = magic-user-tailored Sign. The Atronach as a magic user's Sign, is IMO, not good, and, I would venture, even misunderstood. I'm not going to base my, or dignify any other, argument based on that frame of mind. The easiest answer, though, is that not everyone wants to be a breton Now cast a 100 point spell and the breton takes 4-5 secs to regen the magicka, resulting in the same magicka as the atronach. High elf + Atronach + 100 magicka absorption gives 800 magicka (7 pieces +50 magicka, 2 absorption items).

Enchant other equipment with +50 magicka, raise intelligence to 100 and you have 700 magicka + total magic immunity. Add a mundane ring and you're totally immune to magicka.
